Romain Rolland the Man and His Work

1921. Rolland was a French novelist, dramatist, essayist, mystic, and pacifist, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1915. He had a strong sense of social responsibility and believed that art must be a part of the struggle to bring enlightenment to people. Rolland's biographer, Zweig, achieved fame with his psychoanalytically-oriented biographies of historical characters.
