Relations between the Netherlands and America began when Henry Hudson, in search of an ice-free northwest passage to the Orient, reached the North American coast in the summer of 1609. Hudson's voyage to Manhattan and the river that now bears his name was the result of pure chance. However, it was the beginning of Dutch expansion in America, a process that continues to this day.
Unlike Hudson, today Dutch businessmen have access to a wealth of information on America through the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce in the United States. But building on the tradition initiated by Hudson, the Chamber strives to be a link across the Atlantic, assisting traders and investors with the best possible insight into a market to explore.
