"Architects' Architecture — Thirty feeding architects on the buildings which have interested or inspired them" was the title of a survey published at the beginning of the 1980s in the English magazine "The Architects' Journal" (AJ 28 January 1981). As was to be expected, such well-known names as Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Alvar Aalto, Louis Kahn, James Stirling and others were amongst the models cited. Surprisingly enough, however, the interest of the thirty architects participating in this survey was not focused on a building by one of these established masters, but on the "Centraal Beheer" office building by the younger Dutch architect Herman Hertzberger. It was this scheme that gained most votes in the survey as the most influential building. —In addition to "Centraal Beheer" this book contains portrayals of all sixteen buildings executed by Hertzberger, plus over thirty of his projects. They are illustrated by numerous photos, plans and explanatory texts, all presented in a clearly comprehensible manner. The book is thus the first complete edition of Herman Hertzberger's architectural work.
